Just a little bit about hate.

Okay, to start out, today must be an important day.  I am not sure exactly why I say that, because yesterday may have been just as important.  I think, I could say, that yesterday may have been just as important, but for me the big problem is, trying to figure out, when yesterday was, but that is totally a different subject.

So, about hating.  Curious human behavior , which seems to start with vegetables.  Now, if there was one species on this planet , that I feel I can relate to more than any other, it would have to be vegetables.  We have rarely had run ins at all, and when we did it was mostly minor.  One thing, that I am beginning to learn is, vegetables are much more closely connected , at least from the point of view of genetics, than I would have imagined at some earlier time.

So, usually it starts out with a vegetable, and sometimes it might be Brussel spouts, but it could be something like -- green beans -- , and something happens, which leads us to feel extremely strongly that we will no longer have anything to do with these vegetables, and we generally verbalize that as : " I hate Brussel sprouts " , and then we have a strong emotional reaction, whenever they appear near us, and in particular whenever  there are expectations  for us to eat them.

So, obviously , ( okay, not so obviously ), what we are talking about is not a thing. Even though, if it is not a personal experience for you, you may have been been around someone or knew someone that had such an experience.  Even though our hatred has in some ways come to define, who it is we think we are , or who it is we might like to be, nevertheless, it is not a real thing.  First of all, Brussel sprouts are not so homogeneous, and you know, if you really worked at it , you might find one that you liked.

But beyond that, this hatred is not about something that is, it's about something that is not.  In other words, we are not experiencing a thing, we are experiencing that absence of a thing, which is any kind of experience with a Brussel sprouts.

If , I felt that I was capable of expressing an apology to all the Brussel sprouts out there, and if a Brussel sprout happens to read this , then I do apologize, and I do know that life can be difficult if you are a Brussel sprout.  But I am pretty sure they will be okay, because they just seem to come back, time after time.

So, I have to imagine there is a point to this.  But it seems to me that our hate for something or somebody is not really about our connections with that thing or person, but really more about who we are or about who we think we would like to be.  And it's also about building some kind of a barrier between you and the object of what you can have some strong emotional response to.  And so, if you examine it, then, it's really mostly about having some strong emotional response.
