Just a little guilt?
So guilt is quite a common experience, at least it has been for me. I know, for me, one of the clearest guilt I felt was the presidency of George W Bush, on account of my diligent reading of Mad magazine during my early teen years. There might not be a direct connection, but it did bother me for years. Now, of course , I am just beginning to feel guilty about the Presidency of Don J Trump, on account of the fact, that in retrospect, his whole political career has had an authoritarian bent, pretty much since day one. For me, the problem was, I immediately associated Donald Trump with Donald Duck, and because it is so hard to understand Donald Duck, it was pretty easy then for me to -- almost completely --- ignore -- what he was saying. But how much difference is there between, "Deutschland über alles" and " Make America Great Again ". Yes, there is some difference, but in effect it is almost an identical exhortation. And so as a result we lived through the " brilliant " reign of the little dictator,

and of course, now, today, we are in the process of sorting out that whole experience, which possibly , for many , was quite traumatic, so it's hard to even think back about that.
So guilt. I didn't see it, at the time. Like crashing into a car, when the light is against you, it's just a really bad feeling. Maybe you did not see that blazing stop light but, you can't help but feel bad about what you did, or in this specific case, what you did not do. ( ie pump the breaks ) ..
So , how can you deal with that ? Maybe you personally do not feel bad at all. But that doesn't mean you never do feel guilty. The only thing I can think of is: well, maybe being all human, we can feel okay about making mistakes, and going down the wrong road, or many other events, with which we become entangled. Likewise, we also have the ability to feel okay about those mistakes others make, because, we can understand it, because we have in the past made these same mistakes.
But can we --- do better --- ? Well, honestly, I believe we can. And most of all I am hopeful we will.
So how much does this have to do with hot or cold? Well, sometimes, it's quite hard to see something, even if it is right in your face. In one case maybe you can take off a sweater or put one on, in the other case, well, honestly, you must do the best you can to forgive yourself, and that is not always very easy to do.
