Ralphie and civil rights
So, obviously it would have been very unlikely that Ralphie, being as he was an automobile, and more accurately an automotive vehicle would be able to play a significant role in the civil right movement, of the late 1950s and 1960s. The issue of course would most exactly be, what kinds of civil rights might apply to an automotive vehicle, which of course he was.
Never the less, as many were at that time, Ralphie was clearly strongly attracted to New York in the late 50s and early 60s, as that turned out to be a particularly good time to attract a variety of hitch hikers into his cab, which I know does sound bad, but unusually worked out the best for everyone involved with those, " shared " experiences. Of course, it did happen that from time to time someone might find themselves in some town that they had no idea how they got there. But, you know, that was not so often a " bad " thing.
At any rate, Ralphie was either in Washington D.C. or near there and so got that whole " I have a dream ", speech, pretty directly, or as you might say , with " both barrels " , from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ,in 1963. Very few who where there, or near there can easily forget that ...
And so, as we approach the actual day that commemorates Dr. King, well I am somewhat certain, Ralphie will be reviewing some of , perhaps, his very best memories.
